Dr. Cushner’s practice is dedicated to the treatment of knee disorders. He has a special interest in cartilage injuries of the knee and actively performs a variety of cartilage resurfacing techniques. When Total Knee Arthroplasty is required, modern, state of the art techniques are utilized including Gender Specific, High Flexion, and Minimally Invasive designs. Dr. Cushner is a designer surgeon of the Journey 2 Prosthesis, a design that has been proven to speed up recovery and provides more normal knee kinematics.
Dr. Cushner is involved in improving current knee designs but also is active in improving how the knees are placed serving as a consultant on the development of robot applications for Total Knee Replacements. Dr. Cushner is the Chief Medical Officer for Canary Medical and is the lead Orthopedic designer of a “talking Knee” that will provide information data on the knee’s function for over 20 years.
Dr. Cushner is a recognized expert in the area of bloodless surgery. He is an active member in numerous Orthopaedic organizations including the International Society of Arthroscopy Knee Surgery and Sports Medicine, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, The Knee Society, as well as a past member of the Association of Professional Team Physicians. Dr. Cushner served as a team physician with the New York Knicks, XFL Hitmen as well as arena football City Hawks.
Dr. Cushner is well recognized as an expert in the field with over 60 peer reviewed publications and a fourth Orthopedic textbook currently in publication. He lectures nationally and internationally on these subjects.
Dr. Cushner was formerly the Chairman of the Division of Orthopaedics at Southside Hospital in Bayshore but recently moved his practice to the Hospital for Special Surgery where he maintains offices in Long Island as well as New York City.
Dr. Cushner continues to evaluate all aspects of knee injuries form the sports medicine to the degenerative knee and his practice is limited to exclusively to the knee.
